ABOUT

I have received a formal and classical arts education at the French art school: Les Beaux-Arts and graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in 1994. As a painter I have exhibited in France and New Zealand.

Although my art practice is my main interest, I always worked to support myself, as a graphic designer and as an art tutor.

In the past few years, I have been working with a mentor. Melissa Anderson Scott, and the benefit for my art practice was so valuable, I realised that it is an important part of an artist development and having the opportunity to discuss my personal art practice with a professional artist helped me expand my vision.

My part time job for the Arts Education Department at Corban Estate Arts Centre offered me the ideal platform and the resources to create a yearlong course for intermediate level arts students and is built around mentoring sessions and practice session with professional art practitioners.

My main subject in my art is the impact of nostalgia in memories and the way we deal with it.

My work is about inheritance: what it is we carry with us from our ancestors and what it is we can never quite shake loose from even when we believe we're breaking free.

Through my work I try to re-connect with the feeling of childhood when everything and anything was possible and when life was much simpler. I want to open a small window on 'what used to be' and allow a visual escape back to childhood.

As an artist I believe it is pertinent to find and draw on inspiration from my environment, from what I know best. My work may refer to sweet childhood memories, may create a warm feeling of nostalgia and may awake long lost family stories, but what I am really questioning is “Am I really where I should be?” by revisiting the past and assessing the present, I am investigating my path.
